Thi Vai LNG Terminal to receive first LNG shipment from Qatar Energy

Vietnam’s Thai Vai LNG terminal, the country’s first and only LNG terminal, will receive its first LNG shipment from Qatar Energy in April 2024. The shipment of 70,000 tons of LNG marks the full commercial operation of the terminal. Source

 

BII and IKC partner with Skye in Vietnam solar projects

British International Investment (BII) and Idemitsu Kosan (IKC) have announced a joint investment in Skye Renewables Energy Pte Ltd. (Skye) to build over 300 MW of greenfield solar capacity in Southeast Asia. Skye has its operations in Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia. Source

 

Trina Solar ties up with OCI Holding under USD 700m polysilicon supply contract

OCI Holding will supply polysilicon to Trina Solar’s factory in Thai Nguyen province under a USD 700m supply contract through to 2030. Source

 

China’s Hainan Drinda to invest USD 450m in Vietnam’s solar sector

Hainan Drinda New Energy Technology and Hoang Thinh Phat Corp are to jointly develop a solar cell production facility with a total investment cost of USD 450 million. Source

 

Bac Ninh province 11MW waste-to-energy plant commences operation

The Thang Long-Bac Ninh waste-to-energy plant, the country's first project deploying circular waste processing and burning technology, commenced operation on 26 March 2024. The facility has the capacity to process 500 tons of waste daily, generating 11 MW of electricity. Source


New regulation on Vietnam’s average retail electricity price

Decision 05/2024/QD-TTg dated 26 March 2024 on the adjustment mechanism for Vietnam’s retail electricity price will come into force on 15 May 2024.  Going forward electricity prices can be adjusted at intervals equal to a minimum of three months. Source
